The Reformed Church

The Reformed Parish of Sargans-Mels-Vilters-Wangs was established in 1955. A protestant priest has lived in Sargans since 1933. Due to the increasing importance of traffic, mainly railroad traffic, membership of the Reformed Church grew. Before that the population, who primarily worked in the agricultural sector, was mainly Catholic. The church and the adjacent parish centre was designed by Cyrill von Planta and built in 1958–59. In 1994 a new auditorium was added, and in 1998 the buildings were renovated. The church is surrounded by a spacious park with an urn cemetery.
