The Old Town Hall

The Town Hall has been of central importance to the character of the town
since the 15th c. It was first mentioned in 1465, referring to a meeting room, a
place for dancing, a prison cell and an apartment for the Town Clerk. The building was destroyed in the Great Fire of 1811, but it was not until 1825–26 that the Town Hall was rebuilt, with a school, on the old foundation walls. In 1921 the municipality moved to the Gallati House next door, whereas parts of the school remained in the building until 1975. There also used to be a fire station on the ground floor. From 1913–1952 the secondary school was located here, and from 1955–2004 the building was used as a vocational school. The building was renovated in 1981/82.
