The Catholic Rectory

In 1271 a priest was first mentioned in Sargans. It is assumed that a rectory
existed at that time. The medieval building with baroque elements used
to be at the same location. It was renovated several times by the abbey
of Mehrerau. After its destruction by the Great Fire in 1811 it was rebuilt by
the abbey of Pfäfers. The date with the coat of arms of the abbot Joseph
Arnold above the entrance refers to the completion of the building in 1815. The prominent building with its classical style dominates the church square and marks the western end of the town. It is the corner house of the row of houses of Winkel Lane.
