The “Broder House”

The foundation walls of the Broder House are the oldest part of the town
and date back to the 13th c. It was a guesthouse for a long time. After the
1780s it was called “Hirschen” (Red Deer) and was run by the Broder Family. After the Great Fire of 1811 the house was rebuilt as a residential and guest house. It was considered to be the best address in the Old Town and it later served as a medical practice as well. In 1907 the last private owner, Johanna Broder (1834–1907), donated the house to the municipality of Sargans. Since 1912 hundreds of young women have attended the Housekeeping School
“Broderhaus”.
