The Farmstead of “Ratell”

Mount Gonzen’s slope has always been very suitable for farming. So in 1769
the Provincial Clerk Jacob Gallati rebuilt the farmstead of “Ratell” on the foundation walls of a former farm building. The farmstead is well-proportioned and its horseshoe-shaped ground plan gives the building its manorial appearance. Until 1943 one of the last wine presses was located in the northern wing. The wonderful shrine, which houses a precious statue of Saint Anna, was built in 1787. After the barn was destroyed by an avalanche, it was rebuilt in its present form with protective walls towards the mountain slope in 1808.
