Since its foundation in the 13th c, the Old Town has been linked to the
castle by stairs. It is not surprising that a shrine has been located here
since early times, because wayside shrines invite the passer-by to pause
and worship, and to say prayers. The shrine was first mentioned in 1484,
and in 1685 it was built in its present form. Next to the date the coat of
arms of the bailiff Karl Josef Brandenberg from Zug, who donated the
shrine, is depicted. The painting of Mother Mary and Baby Jesus dates
back to the 20th century.
