The guesthouse “Rebstock” (Vine) is located on the western access road
and thus on the direct route between the Old Town and Lake Walenstadt.
The main part of today’s building was constructed before 1400. It was part of
a fief “outside the gate” – the residents of these buildings had freedoms similar
to those in the town. In the 18th c the restaurant “zum Schwert” (sword) was located here, and provincial governors were regular visitors. In 1612 and 1811 the house was renovated to its present form, and since then it has been called “Rebstock”. The guesthouse closed down after the Second World War. Since its renovation in 2005/06 it has been revitalised as a residential house.
